Who is responsible
SnapTrace is a product of UNIT3A, based in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India. The photographer or studio that covered the event uploads the photos and decides whether guests can preview and download them. We run the face search, and we ask for your consent before it starts.
What we use, and why
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your selfie | To search this event’s photos for your face | Discarded as soon as the search finishes |
| Your consent record: the time you agreed, the event, and a random session ID | To prove you agreed before any face search | Deleted with the event |
| The list of photos that matched you, and which faces in those photos matched best | So you can come back to your photos, and be shown new ones, without taking another selfie | Deleted with the event |
| Face templates from the event’s photos (sets of numbers, not images) | To find matches for your selfie | Deleted with the event |
| Basic technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and a count of recent searches | To keep the gallery secure and prevent misuse | A limited period, typically up to 90 days |
We never collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or contacts.
How face search works
- You read this notice in the gallery and tap to agree. Nothing is searched until you do.
- You take a selfie.
- It’s compared only with the face templates from this event’s photos. It’s never compared with other events, other studios, or any outside database.
- You see the photos you appear in, and your selfie is discarded.
- When you come back, we check the event’s new photos using your face from a photo you already matched, and show any new ones. You don’t need another selfie.
Face matching is automated and isn’t perfect. It can miss a photo, or occasionally show someone who looks like you.
Reels and collages
On some events you can turn your photos into a short reel or a collage to keep or share. It’s available when the photographer’s plan includes it and they’ve allowed full-size previews, and the photographer can switch it off.
- Made on your phone: your browser loads the photos you can already see and builds the reel or collage on your device. Nothing you make is uploaded to us, and we don’t see or keep it.
- Where it goes: it’s saved to your phone, or shared through your phone’s own share menu. What happens after that is up to you and the app you share it with.
- Using it: it’s for personal, non-commercial use, such as your own social media. The photographer keeps the copyright in the photos, and their credit and watermark stay on it (see our Terms of Service).
When it’s deleted
Event photos, face templates, consent records and search results are all deleted automatically after the event’s retention period. The period depends on the photographer’s plan and is 5, 7, 10 or 14 days after the last photo was uploaded. After that the gallery closes, so download any photos you want to keep before then, if the photographer has allowed downloads.
Children
If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must agree and take the selfie with you, or search on your behalf.
Your choices and rights
- Don’t want face search? Don’t tap agree. Nothing about your face is processed.
- Changed your mind? Close the gallery at any time. Your selfie is already gone, and you can ask us to delete your consent record and matches.
- Want a photo of you removed? Contact the photographer who covered the event, or email us with the gallery link and a description or screenshot of the photo. We’ll work with the studio to remove it or restrict access.
- Other rights: you can ask what data we hold, and have it corrected or erased. You can also raise a grievance with us, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
We don’t know who you are, so please tell us which event you attended. That’s the only way we can find your data.
